On Labor Day weekend, I had a chance that involved the Michael Jackson family. As I was featured on ABC's Secret Millionaire, apparently, Mrs. Katherine Jackson, Michael Jackson's mother saw the program. Since the Jacksons are from Gary, Indiana, and since the show was in Gary, Indiana, Mrs. Jackson watched the program. Of course, I had no idea who watched the program or who resided in the city in which the show was featured.
Months had passed. In reality, over a year had passed when we finally got the call that Mrs. Jackson was thinking about having my cohort Coach Tony Branch as well as I come to assist with a celebration of her son's life. Now, Coach Tony who is from Gary, Indiana touched Mrs. Jackson heart strings with the willingness to give of self to make sure his basketball girls' stood a chance to go to college. Furthermore, she appreciated the donations I gave to aid Coach Tony and the other community service programs in Gary, Indiana, the city that her children grew up.
Upon arriving in Gary, Indiana again, this time around to emcee the celebration of life party for Michael Jackson, I was reminded of how much the city needs an opportunity for positive. Regrettably, a lot of houses are run down, the schools have been in disrepair, and there are vacant houses and businesses all over the place. I was pleased to have an opportunity to hob-knob together with the Jackson's while providing a free community event for the depressed town of Gary.
Despite hardship, the community members were gracious with their smiles. Coming out to dance as well as sing, hoping for a peek at Michael's family members, they supported the memory of Michael inspite of the heat and humidity. Opportunities such as this appear to me not out of luck as some may say. Luck had absolutely nothing to do with it. The circumstances came as a result of being diligent with my business practice as well as aligning myself with excellent people. Additionally, it came from selecting the best show to be on only after careful consideration!
The main reason the Secret Millionaire, ABC's hit Television show was popular for the Jackson's was for many reasons. The Jackson's are dedicated to the Gary, Indiana community, charitable organizations, as well as youth.
